Desempleo golpea más a mujeres jóvenes

Abstract

La situación de pandemia que se vive desde inicios de 2020, provocada por la covid-19, ha afectado fuertemente la actividad económica del país y, por ende, al mercado laboral. Según la Encuesta Continua de Empleo, realizada trimestralmente por el INEC, la tasa de desempleo abierto juvenil (15-24 años) alcanzó el 48% en el segundo trimestre de 2020, la más alta desde que se realiza esta encuesta (III trimestre 2010). En los últimos trimestres se ha venido reduciendo, pero aún se encuentra muy elevada (43.8% en el I trimestre 2021). Este es el grupo de población, según rango de edad, con mayores problemas para encontrar trabajo.

The pandemic situation that has existed since the beginning of 2020, caused by covid-19, has strongly affected the country's economic activity and, therefore, the labor market. According to the Continuous Employment Survey, conducted quarterly by the INEC, the youth open unemployment rate (15-24 years) reached 48% in the second quarter of 2020, the highest since this survey was conducted (III quarter 2010) . In recent quarters it has been decreasing, but it is still very high (43.8% in the I quarter 2021). This is the population group, according to age range, with the greatest problems finding work.
