Costa Rica entre el miedo y el odio: hacia la anulación de un sujeto histórico

Abstract

Recientemente el Instituto Costarricense del Café (ICAFE) en la voz de su directora ejecutiva Xinia Chaves emitió dos señalamientos importantes en cuanto a su proceso productivo actual y el vínculo con los impactos de la crisis sanitaria global. El primero indica que la cosecha 2020-2021 será “una de las más importantes dela historia”, dada la coyuntura sanitaria global y las circunstancias que afectan todos los ámbitos de la vida misma. El segundo consiste en la convocatoria, inédita en décadas, a la fuerza de trabajo costarricense a incorporarse a la recolección, que este año podría empezar en agosto en su etapa temprana. Esta acción ha supuesto por ejemplo, que comunidades ubicadas en esa espacialidad fronteriza muestren su oposición a recibir personas migrantes identificadas como positivas con el virus en una acción absolutamente opuesta ala supuesta solidaridad y hospitalidad que ha caracterizado la identidad social costarricense. Al mismo tiempo, el tono de los discursos, su acento, ha estado puesto sobre la persona migrante y no sobre las empresas que les contratan en condiciones laborales y sociales deficitarias.

Recently, the Costa Rican Coffee Institute (ICAFE), in the voice of its executive director Xinia Chaves, issued two important statements regarding its current production process and the link with the impacts of the global health crisis. The first indicates that the 2020-2021 harvest will be “one of the most important in history”, given the global health situation and the circumstances that affect all areas of life itself. The second consists of the call, unprecedented in decades, to the Costa Rican workforce to join the collection, which this year could begin in August in its early stage. This action has meant, for example, that communities located in that border space show their opposition to receiving migrants identified as positive for the virus in an action absolutely opposite to the supposed solidarity and hospitality that has characterized Costa Rican social identity. At the same time, the tone of the speeches, their accent, has been placed on the migrant and not on the companies that hire them in poor working and social conditions.
