Abstract
Ambos pacientes
presentaron síndrome toracolumbar. The following paper was held in the National University of Costa Rica -Small Animal
and Wildlife Veterinary Hospital. It consisted of a directed practice that lasted eight months.
The objective of this practice was to use electroacupuncture (EA) as a complementary
treatment in canine patients, which suffered from paralysis or paresis of the posterior train
which did not respond to the allopathic treatment satisfactorily, this treatment was applied to
the patients by the doctor in charge. Each patient took a general physical exam and also each
one took a test regarding the neurological function. According to the gotten results, they were
adapted to an electroacupuncture protocol.
There were taken 15 patients as samples which were classified according to the
syndrome that they developed. These were thoracolumbar syndrome (which was presented in
most of the patients), and also cauda equine syndrome.
The positive response was observed in nine patients. Moreover, the lack of a definitive
diagnostic was determined and this highly influenced most of the obtained responses from the
patients.
Finally, there are two cases which were taken during this period of time. Both patients
suffered from thoracolumbar syndrome.
