Abstract

La familia Lutjanidae es el principal recurso íctico del Golfo de Nicoya, siendo el pargo mancha, Lutjanus guttatus, la especie más importante de esta familia. Debido a la abundancia de esta especie en la pesquería de esta región, se considero necesario la realización del estudio de los principales aspectos alimentación. sobre la reproducción y la alimentación. La investigación se llevo a cabo desde enero 1993 a enero de 1994. La proporción de sexos ue de 1, 2:1 (macho-hembra), las tallas de captura de los machos y las hembras a lo largo del muestreo fluctuaron entre 12,0 y 60 cm y de 14,0 a 57 cm de longitud total respectivamente. La especie no presenta dimorfismo sexual externo. Presenta dos máximos reproductivos (abril y octubre respectivamente). Las hembras presentan vitelogenesis asincrónica. Los machos alcanzan su primera madurez sexual entre los 32,0 y 32,9 cm. Y las hembras entre 33,0 Y 33,9 cm. La fecundidad absoluta fluctuó entre 1.363.000 y 60.454 ovocitos.
