Pasantía en cirugía y medicina interna de especies menores en Centro Veterinario México, Ciudad de México y en Hospital de Especies Menores y Silvestres de la Escuela de Medicina Veterinaria UNA, Heredia

Abstract

Esta pasantía se realizó en las áreas de medicina interna y cirugía del Hospital de Especies Menores y Silvestres UNA y en el Centro Veterinario México, del 31 de enero al 09 de abril del 2022, con una duración total de 351 horas. El principal objetivo fue fortalecer los conocimientos teóricos y prácticos adquiridos a lo largo de la carrera. Se atendieron en total 325 pacientes, distribuidos por especie en caninos (285) y felinos (40).

De estos animales, predominaron las hembras (54%) en su mayoría castradas, mientras que los machos (46%) fueron fértiles. Las razas atendidas presentaron una amplia variedad, predominando los animales sin raza definida o mestizos. El grupo etario más atendido correspondió a animales de 7 a 14 años (41,9%). En el área de medicina interna se atendieron 254 casos, siendo el sistema orgánico más afectado el tegumentario (25) en el HEMS y el digestivo (31) en el CVM. Las pruebas complementarias más realizadas fueron el hemograma (33%) y la química sanguínea (23,9%). Mientras que en el área de cirugía se atendieron 71 casos, siendo el sistema orgánico más intervenido el reproductor (16) en el CVM y el tegumentario (7) en el HEMS.

Adicionalmente, se realizó el procesamiento en laboratorios de diagnóstico de la EMV de diez muestras de casos atendidos en el HEMS, donde se identificaron seis agentes patógenos como causantes de enfermedad.

This internship was performed in the areas of internal medicine and surgery of the Hospital de Especies Menores y Silvestres UNA and Centro Veterinario México, from January 31 to April 9, 2022, with a total duration of 351 hours. The main objective was to strengthen the theoretical and practical knowledge acquired throughout the career. A total of 325 patients were attended, distributed by species in canines (285) and felines (40). Of these animals, females (54%) were predominantly spayed, while males (46%) were fertile. The breeds treated showed a wide variety, with a predominance of animals without a defined breed or mongrels. The most attended age group corresponded to animals between 7 and 14 years of age (41.9%). In the internal medicine area, 254 cases were treated, with the most affected organ system being the integumentary system (25) at HEMS and the digestive system (31) at CVM. The most frequently performed complementary tests were blood count (33%) and blood chemistry (23.9%). In the surgery area, 71 cases were treated, with the most frequently intervened organic system being the reproductive (16) in the CVM and the integumentary (7) in the HEMS. In addition, ten samples of cases treated at HEMS were processed in diagnostic laboratories for VME, where six pathogenic agents were identified as the cause of the disease.
